Best beaches top beaches for bonfires in and around Orange County Beachside Vacation Rentals

Finding a meeting place for your next bonfire with friends, or planning a late night with s’mores while visiting one of Southern California’s beach towns can prove to be quite a feat with bonfire restrictions and regulations nowadays. But never fear! We’ve rounded up a list of the top beaches to host bonfires so you won’t have to be disappointed on your next beach vacation. From hustling and bustling, to quiet and serene, one of these bonfire destinations will be sure to fit the bill for your next visit to Southern California!

Note: Fire ring rules and regulations vary from beach to beach and may change. To ensure a stress-free beach trip, be sure to check city rules before you head out!

Huntington City Beach
Located in the center of one of our favorite surf cities, Huntington City Beach offers a variety of past times for the beach lover—from volleyball courts, to fun restaurants, shopping, surf lessons, and, of course, fire rings! The fire rings begin in front of Pacific City and continue along the beach to the South. There are 100 rings in total, available on a first-come first serve basis, so be sure to camp out near a fire pit earlier in the day—it gets quite crowded, especially during peak season!

Huntington City Beach is open from 5 Am to 10 PM. Park on both sides of the pier for a small fee, or search local neighborhoods for street parking, and enjoy a nice walk through the busy streets!

Bolsa Chica State Beach
If you travel a bit more north, you will find Bolsa Chica State Beach —a three mile wide shore tapering off of the Huntington Dog Beach. Near Bolsa Chica is the Bolsa Chica Ecological Wildlife Reserve, where you can take a break from the roaring waves to check out unique birds and other wildlife. In fact, Bolsa Chica State Beach is one of the top bird-watching spots in Southern California .

Bolsa Chica State Beach includes 200 first-come, first-served fire rings, but if you prefer to plan ahead you also have the option to reserve a picnic spot in advance - that way you'll be assured of a fire ring at the date and time you want! This makes Bolsa Chica a great option for a quieter, less hectic, more low-key bonfire and beach day. Bolsa Chica State Beach is open from 6 AM to 10 PM. Parking is $15, and be aware that parking closes at 9 PM.

Balboa Pier Beach
Don’t be fooled, Balboa Pier Beach is not part of Balboa Island, but an extension of Newport Beach! Definitely plan to get to Balboa Pier early because free parking fills up quickly. Then pack up for a full day! You can take a whale watching cruise from Davey's Locker Whale Watching and Sportfishing, ride the Balboa Island Ferry, and let the kids have some fun at the Balboa Fun Zone. Closer to the beach, try hiking the Newport-Balboa Bike Trail, lounging at Peninsula Park, watching surfers, or grabbing a casual bite at Ruby's Diner at the end of the pier -  then set up for a bonfire!

Balboa Pier Beach features two sets of fire rings. Fire rings to the east of the pier allow wood burning, while the green rings to the west side of the pier only allow charcoal. Plan in advance and stake out a fire pit early! And check the Newport City website for current fire pit regulations .

Corona Del Mar State Beach
You’ve just finished a hike up Inspiration Point in Corona Del Mar, or any of the other many scenic locations in Newport Beach, and you are looking for a place to rest your feel and watch the sunset before gathering around a bonfire. Corona Del Mar State Beach just might be the perfect fit! Corona Del Mar State Beach is a large, beautiful stretch of coastline protected by a rock jetty which usually provides smaller surf and safer swimming conditions making Corona Del Mar State Beach is an especially fun area for families who want a safe place for children to swim during the day before roasting hot dogs over a fire!

Like Balboa Pier Beach, Corona Del Mar State Beach has two sets of fire rings . The rings closer to the ocean allow wood burning, while the rings closer to the shore are for charcoal only. If you don’t want to pay a parking fee, try parking near Inspiration Point instead and walking to the shore. Or if you're staying at our Jasmine or Jasmine by the Sea vacation rental - just walk down! Corona Del Mar State Beach is just a short walk from either of these vacation rentals.

Doheny State Beach-South Side
You'll find lots of things to do in Dana Point, from whale watching, to kayaking the harbor, to exploring the Ocean Institute. What better way to wind down a long day of adventure than with a cozy beach fire? Located near the Dana Point Harbor is Doheny State Beach . Slightly different than the North Side of this beach, the South Side of Dohney is home to picnic tables and fire pits along narrow jetty. Dividing the North and South side is a creek where the family can have fun looking out for local wildlife and migrating birds.

Look for free street parking along PCH before paying for parking in the beach parking lot itself. Overall, Doheny is a fun little stop for a family afternoon and night adventure and offers a quieter and simpler beach experience while still being near all the fun and activities in Dana Point.

Oceanside Harbor Beach
If you're vacationing a little further south near San Diego, don't miss out on Oceanside's Harbor Beach ! Harbor Beach is Oceanside's largest beach, and really has it all. The extra-wide stretch of sand offers plenty of space for beach picnics, building sandcastles, or running along the coast. Volleyball courts, a playground, sheltered gazebos, BBQ grills, a snack bar, and more, make this beach hard to turn down!

In addition to all it's other features, Harbor Beach also includes 24 fire rings. As at most other beaches, these fire rings are first-come, first served, but with a beach this full of amenities, you won't mind hanging around for a few hours! Harbor Beach has free 2 hour parking lots as well as multiple paid lots, so parking shouldn't be a challenge except during the very peak days and times.
