Labor Day in Southern California: Three Perfect Ways to Enjoy the Weekend

You’ve gathered the family, researched transportation and California lodging, and have already begun dreaming of a weekend away in Orange County or San Diego for Labor Day. But what does this sun-lit paradise have to offer other than tanning rays, holiday weekend crowds, and green smoothies for Labor Day Weekend? Look no further; we’ve got the top 3 ways to spend Labor Day in Southern California right here!

1. The Classics
If you are looking for classic, all encompassing, day-to-night things to do in Orange County, consider making plans to visit a major theme park or attraction. Not sure there's a theme park to fit you and your family? Take a look at this list of Southern California attractions:
If you're a Southern California local, you can probably add to that list with your own favorite theme parks, zoos, and other California points of interest. These attractions are family friendly, built on customer service, and provide a large array of options to satisfy every individual. They also offer unique opportunities for vacation photography (with Disney princesses and Mickey Mouse no less!) and matchless experiences for a tiring but memorable trip!

Don’t forget to check out any California vacation deals ahead of time while you plan; there are often ticket discounts available for popular attractions to make the family budget a bit more manageable!

2. Hidden Gems
One of the most unique aspects of our Southern California communities are their eclectic locally driven exhibits and businesses. For a quieter, local experience, stop by an afternoon farmer’s market, munch on some organic snacks, and check out some small businesses. The Costa Mesa, San Clemente, and Huntington Beach farmers markets are all great choices for Labor Day Weekend. If you're already in town on Thursday, be sure to visit the Oceanside Farmer's Market as well!

Later in the day, consider spending time at one of the many local museums, art exhibits, or inexpensive stage plays Orange County has to offer. The Long Beach Playhouse , Irvine Museum , and Oceanside California Surf Museum , and Orange International Street Fair are a few, among the many, that offer a local and sentimental experience for an otherwise busy coastal community.

Check hours ahead of time, as some of these local spots may not be open on Labor Day itself. If you're in town for the whole weekend though, you won't run out of places to visit!

3. Beach Day
For a more relaxed Labor Day weekend, spend a day or two stretched out on the sand at one of the beautiful beaches  of our southern California beach towns. Find some California bike rentals, and cruise along the coast, past beautiful beach homes and the ocean side. Whether you choose to spend your day at the Oceanside Pier, the small town of Seal Beach, or in the beautiful waters of Laguna Beach, there are always enjoyable local stores, restaurants, and activities to explore as well! What better thing to do while in Southern California than spend a day digging toes in the sand, splashing in the cool water, and playing volleyball with family and friends?

Before you plan your beach day, be sure to take a look at our Oceanside Survival Tips , and also research beach parking in advance. If you're staying in one of our Beachside vacation rentals , you probably don't need to worry: most of our vacation rentals are within walking distance of local beaches.

Spending a day at the beach is both free and a high point of the Southern California experience, and sometimes, those rays of sunshine, crowded shorelines, and smoothies, are what the Southern California Labor Day weekend is all about!
